I did not install the driver because my problem turns out to be a bug or virus that disabled my audio controllers. I figurerd there was something suspicious since the same system never had a problem before. (I went through the usual crisis and recovered only after getting heavily suited with security and the latest updates. I was attributing my lack of sound to an unintended consequence but it is a bug instead).
I have no reason to doubt the efficacy of the driver.John+Ballard
